Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Originally a British magazine for commercial lawyers, The Lawyer was first published in 1987. It belongs to Centaur Media , a London-based business information, events and marketing provider, which also owns other job boards for different industries. Since it was created, The Lawyer has created its very own job board and it has upped the content.. Today, the job board stands alone in its own right as a respected and visited website, attracting 73 000 visitors on average each month. As a Madgex job board, it has a familiar design, focused on the job search. The followers on social media are 1 442 followers Twitter and another 438 on Facebook. The following on LinkedIn is for the magazine (2 468 on LinkedIn).
Design: Like all Madgex job boards, the Lawyer has a clear design. The homepage features the search engine (keywords, location, radius) in the middle of the page, above all the other featured content: lists of suggested categories, featured jobs, recent articles, featured recruiters (all of which are hiring), the Twitter feed, the featured campaigns and the latest offers. Once in the job listing, you can choose between searching and browsing, which affects the filters (location, vacancy type, salary band, contract, hours, practice areas, PQE, experience level, recruiter type). When browsing, you can see the number of job offers in each subcategory. Job offers display useful information on the left-hand side and a long description (including expiry dates). Similar jobs appear on the right-hand side as well as underneath. As for the company pages, you will find a description, images and video, articles referring to the employer as well as other useful information (the website, the address, a link to current job offers, a map, etc.). In the company listing, the profiles are in alphabetical order but you can also search for the specific company.
The job board objective: The Lawyer created a job board to allow the readers of the popular media website to find relevant law professions.
Recruiter observations: It’s easy for recruiters to create an account (no VAT required) and the prices are online.
Jobseeker observations: An account is not required to apply to job offers on other websites. If you are not redirected, simply fill out a short form of information (which then creates an account).
The job offers: There are currently 5 439 job offers. Most of them are in banking, real-estate, corporate or commercial practice areas.
Special features: The articles; the blog (in many different sections); job alerts; the app; the previous/next buttons.
Verdict: The Lawyer is a good choice for anyone in commercial law. Other job boards for law professions in the UK exist, which you can also use to reach more recruiters or jobseekers.
