We all have moments when we really question if our job is worth turning off the snooze button for the third time and getting out of our warm beds in the winter mornings when it is so dark and cold that you can see your breath in front of you. At these points in our life, we really start to doubt the importance of the job that we do every day and this leads us to considering other possibilities or opportunities elsewhere. Before you go ahead and start composing your letter or resignation, take a moment to think over the following points and don’t make any rash moves until you truly believe it is the best decision.

You’re bored all the time

It’s one thing to dread Mondays, but another if you dread the working week because you know that it means you’re going to be completely and utterly bored. When someone asks you what you do at work for 38 hours a week, replying that you play Candycrush and stalk people on Facebook is not an acceptable answer. Boredom actually indicates that your skills and strengths aren’t being recognized by your boss, which just goes to show how little importance you have in the company and how easily they could get rid of you. This might be the time to unsubscribe from the Buzzfeed notifications, delete your browsing history, and get yourself out of there.

Your ideas are put down

Following on from this disregard coming from your boss, something that is even worse is if your ideas are being deliberately ignored and put down by the people around you. If your colleagues or boss laugh at your ideas or don’t take you seriously; they are definitely not worth your time. It is not only insulting and rude, it’s actually demotivating and makes you stop caring as an employee. What kind of boss wants a member of their team to not take pride in the business?

You’re overburdened

If you’re feeling stressed every day, this can make the arrival to work in the morning miserable and have a negative impact on your well-being. A constant dread of going to work is not normal and it can even affect your physical and mental health. When you have a continual list of tasks to finish and you’re worrying about work even when you’re out of the office, this can be a sign that you need to get out of this adverse environment immediately.

You’re not learning

A job is meant to develop you and push your limits so that you can gain further experience and climb up the career ladder. Sometimes, these opportunities don’t present themselves and you have to take the matter into your own hands, like asking about a new project you want to join or signing up to a conference or talk you are interested in. If you feel like you’re not being challenged in this position or if there is not even the possibility to broaden your learning; it is time to move on.
