Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Created in 1999 by Laurel Touby, Media Bistro provides its users with job offers and resume help. The specialist job board for those in the media and art design field has a user-friendly design. As a Madgex job board, we are used to seeing some of the features. On social media, there are 6 117 followers on LinkedIn, 164 000 on Twitter and 65 672 on Facebook. According to SimilarWeb, there are about 459 320 visits a month (a third of which comes from the States). In 2007, Laurel sold the site to Jupitermedia. Then, the site was acquired by Prometheus Global Media (a subsidiary of Guggenheim Partners) in 2014. This split up the expo business section from the rest of the site, which continues to exist under the name 3DR Holings.
Design: As a Madgex job board, the layout follows a somewhat standard design. The search engine (keywords) appears in the middle of the homepage, followed by suggested jobs and hiring companies (which are not all hiring). In the job listing, it distinguishes between browsing and searching. The publication or expiration date are visible depending on how long the job has been online. Most also have a logo and all of them provide some salary information. As for the filters, we have the job discipline, the sector, the salary, recruiter type, contract type, experience level, regions and hours. For the company listing, you have a small search engine (keywords and type of recruiter) too. Through the pricing section, you can contact the team and see the “About us” section.
The job board objective: Connecting people in the media industry is a priority for Media Bistro.
Recruiter observations: It’s easy to create an account and order a job offer from the site.
Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to create an account and apply online. You can also sign up as a MB member.
The job offers: There are currently 1 936 job offers on the site. Most of them are for TV & Film, News & Journalism or Account Management.
Special features: The resume services (at a cost); photos of the resume service team; following employers; the courses; Freelancing services; recruiter blog and other articles.
Verdict: Media Bistro has had an eventful past, with many changes concerning the structure and additional sections. The design is easy to use and there are many choices for jobseekers. We would definitely recommend it for anyone in the media field.
