Jobboard Finder had the pleasure of chatting to the founding partner of Niche Jobs, Matt Farrah, this week. He shared with us some insight into the defining features of their UK centered job board and their plans for the future. To view the job board profiles of Niche Jobs on Jobboard Finder, you can find them at Nurses.co.uk, Healthjobs.co.uk, Socialcare.co.uk, and Healthcarejobs.ie.

Can you tell us more about your job board and its current positioning in the international job board market?

We are very much focused on the UK health market. We like to think that we’re amongst the leaders in the UK health market. We see ourselves as doing something slightly different. We’re specialist and small. This gives us agility to focus on quality, not quantity. Everything we do is set to target qualified, specialist job seekers.

What are the specific features that make your job board different from your competitors?

From marketing to candidate management we focus on quality. So our marketing looks at what traffic we’re actually getting: the quality. This is more important to us than quantity. We also have a candidate manager. He reviews applications and applicants that our clients need, NOT just the volume they think they want. We want to eliminate irrelevant candidates. That just wastes time for recruiters who are looking for social workers or nurses who need to be qualified and experienced.

What can you say about the current traffic on your website? What countries are visiting more often?

We don’t want too many overseas visitors. These tend to not be the candidates that our clients want a jobs board for. They use other marketing avenues for overseas candidates. By positioning ourselves as UK focused our clients know what they’re getting from us.

How do you plan to develop your job board within the next few years? Any new projects?

I think it’s important that we develop the brand. We want to enhance our brand as one that can be trusted. We want to be an established voice in our field. So we’re looking closely at how we harness content and social media and remarketing strategies to do this.

What are the main challenges you will be facing in the coming years?

We compete against, almost entirely, big international brands. From Indeed to CareerBuilder to the established horizontal boards like Reed, Monster and TotalJobs. It’s crucial we take on the big publishers in our fields and do something different. We can’t and don’t wish to compete on volume traffic. That’s something they actually find hard to NOT do! So our very character (small, agile business) gives us an immediate edge. We hope to capitalize on this. It defines us.

1996 – Left University with a First in English BA Hons.

1996-1997 – World Travel Group. My first job was working as an online editor working for a global travel company.

1997-2001 – Worked for the UK’s 5th biggest publisher as an online editor. I set up and ran an ‘unofficial’ football network. I amassed all the operators of unofficial football club fan sites under one umbrella. We gave a fan’s voice to the weekly news coming out of the Premiership.

2002-2007 – Managed the world’s first aviation jobs board, Aviationjobsearch.com.

2007 to now – Struck out on my own to set up a specialist jobs board company. We launched a nursing jobs board to rival Staffnurse.com. Since then we have grown Nurses.co.uk to become an established jobs board for the UK nursing industry (private and NHS). We have spread out from there to also cover social care (Socialcare.co.uk) and medical jobs (Healthjobs.co.uk). We acquired Ireland’s leading health jobs board in 2009 and have successfully grown that too – Healthcarejobs.ie.
