Xing is a business social network<\/strong> which operates as a competitor to LinkedIn<\/strong> and Viadeo<\/strong>. The site operates on a \u2018small world network\u2019<\/strong> basis. That means that it allows you to form connections<\/strong> with your contacts, and view their connections (your \u2018second degree\u2019 contacts).<\/p>\n

It was founded in 2003<\/strong> in Hamburg, Germany, and was known under the name of Open Business Club until 2006 when it was rebranded as Xing.<\/p>\n

Its primary market is German speakers<\/strong>, however it is available worldwide and used by people in 200 countries, according to the site. The site pages and functions are currently available in 12 different languages<\/strong>, including simplified Chinese, Dutch, English and German.<\/p>\n

How to use Xing for best results<\/h2>\n

In order to use Xing, users must create an account<\/strong>. The basic account is universal<\/strong> and users need not specify whether they are recruiting or job hunting. The site is easy to use<\/strong> and creating an account is quick<\/strong> and simple<\/strong>, with the site guiding you through the steps you need to take.<\/p>\n

Indeed, you can use the site even if you are not actively job hunting<\/strong> and in fact we would encourage you to keep your business information up to date, because it is good practice and will be very helpful if you were to find yourself suddenly out of a job. It also allows you to present a positive professional image<\/strong> online, should any companies look you up.<\/p>\n
