Background<\/h2>\n

Egypt is a transcontinental<\/strong> nation, whose location is spread throughout northeast<\/strong> Africa<\/strong> and southwest Asia<\/strong>. Regarded as one of the “cradles of civilization<\/strong>“, Egypt is among the oldest nation-states in the world, although the current political is relatively young, dating back to independence from British rule in 1922<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The current unemployment<\/strong> rate in Egypt is 12.4%<\/strong>, and a survey by Bayt suggest that even those who are employed are dissatisfied, since salaries are not keeping pace with the rising cost<\/strong> of living<\/strong>. Informal<\/strong> employment<\/strong> is also widespread.<\/p>\n

The cost<\/strong> of workers is estimated to be at around 15% of UK wages,<\/strong> although this low number may then reflect the quality of the workforce. However, Egypt is home to one of the continent’s most qualified workforces<\/strong>, with a relatively well-developed infrastructure<\/strong>.\u00a0The law outlines a working day as eight hours, and a working week as forty-eight hours<\/strong>, and anything over this must be counted as paid overtime<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
