Whatapp\u2019s users are some of the most loyal<\/strong> in the industry, meaning once you can form meaningful<\/strong> and lasting<\/strong> connections<\/strong> via the app. According to research,\u00a062%<\/strong> of users\u00a0are still active on the platform\u00a0a year<\/strong> after downloading WhatsApp<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget that most people check their phone hundreds<\/strong> of times a day, many more times than their email<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You can sign up to be added to particular group chats<\/strong> for \u2018Sales\u2019, \u2018Engineering jobs\u2019 and so on. Then, you can automatically receive messages within these group chats when jobs matching your requirements<\/strong> go live on the site.<\/p>\n

Whatsapp is especially well-placed to recruit young people<\/strong> and students. This demographic is hundreds of times more reactive<\/strong> on their phones than on email accounts, allowing you to connect with students live and direct. The main benefit of instant messaging is that it is instantaneous, with messages usually read within 90 seconds of being sent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For example, IT business Infonova<\/strong> created a Whataspp day, where they paired employees with students, to inform with them about their jobs and improve understanding<\/strong> of their roles<\/strong>. The employee would send a group chat updates (pictures and messages) of their regular day at the office<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This encouraged students to interact<\/strong> with the worker, asking questions<\/strong> about certain aspects of a job and learning<\/strong> from the questions that other students asked.<\/p>\n

Whatsapp could also be used to promote student recruitment events<\/strong> in real-time. For example if you are an employer hosting an event on a campus, you could easily send out a broadcast<\/strong> message<\/strong> to students inviting them to a career<\/strong> fair<\/strong> to come and see what your company is all about.<\/p>\n

Downsides<\/h2>\n

There are several things that recruiters need to be wary<\/strong> of, however, when considering using Whatsapp as a recruitment tool.<\/p>\n

This could begin to feel like an invasion<\/strong> of privacy<\/strong>, especially considering the extent of time<\/strong> that people spend on their phones. This could easily result in a candidate blocking<\/strong> a recruiter they felt was too pushy or invasive.<\/p>\n

The other thing to consider is that some applicants may feel alienated<\/strong> by the use of Whatsapp. Although used by huge numbers of people in everyday life, some applicants may think that the use of a chat app in the recruitment process is less professional<\/strong> in general, and this could leave someone with a negative<\/strong> impression<\/strong> of your business. You must be sensitive<\/strong> to your demographic and your target<\/strong> candidates<\/strong> before you launch the use of it.<\/p>\n

Whatsapp for Business<\/h2>\n

Whatsapp for Business<\/strong> is already becoming a reality. In September 2017 WhatsApp announced they are in the testing phases of a business platform which will enable<\/strong> companies<\/strong> to provide customer<\/strong> service<\/strong> to users at a large scale.<\/p>\n

The software<\/strong> is already remarkably easy to use for businesses, as there is a computer-optimised version<\/strong> of the platform which pairs with your smartphone, transferring<\/strong> message information<\/strong> seamlessly between the two.<\/p>\n

It seems this will be used for customer service at all levels<\/strong> and for building rapport<\/strong> with customers. Adding in a recruitment-optimised feature<\/strong> could be a natural<\/strong> continuation<\/strong> from this.<\/p>\n
