Job boards<\/a> are an incredibly useful tool<\/strong> if you\u2019re looking for a job.<\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, you can search through thousands of the latest vacancies<\/strong> and apply for jobs that pique your interest via the site. Secondly, you have the opportunity to be headhunted<\/strong> by top recruiters and employers once you\u2019ve uploaded your CV.<\/p>\n

Now that\u2019s smart searching.<\/p>\n

To make sure you\u2019re getting the most out of job boards, here\u2019s how to optimise your CV<\/strong> and find job search success<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Follow these CV optimisation tips and you’ll be on the road to success<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Include relevant keywords<\/h2>\n

Keywords<\/strong> are an extremely important component of your CV \u2013 and if you think you\u2019re unfamiliar with keywords, you actually use them every day.<\/p>\n

Remember the last time you searched something on Google? The words you used in your search were keywords.<\/p>\n

Recruiters also use keywords when searching job boards\u2019 CV databases to identify the most relevant candidates<\/strong> for their vacancies.<\/p>\n

For example, if a recruiter is looking for someone to fill a digital marketing manager role<\/strong>, they might use the keywords \u201cdigital marketing\u201d, \u201cmarketing manager\u201d and \u201cdigital marketing executive\u201d. They are also likely to search via requirements<\/strong> listed in the job description, such as \u201cmarketing experience\u201d, \u201cemail marketing\u201d, \u201cexcellent communication\u201d or \u201cPPC\u201d.<\/p>\n

Therefore, to make sure that your CV crops up in recruiters\u2019 searches, you must inject keywords related to your ideal role<\/strong> and industry. Simply use relevant job descriptions for inspiration.<\/p>\n

Prove your skills and experience<\/h2>\n

Now that you\u2019ve peppered your CV with keywords and caught the recruiter\u2019s attention, it\u2019s time to make your abilities zing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To make sure that you stand above other applicants with similar experience, you must quantify your abilities with facts<\/strong> and figures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some measurements of growth and success may include revenue<\/strong> you\u2019ve generated, percentages of targets you\u2019ve achieved<\/strong> or the number of people you\u2019ve<\/strong> managed<\/strong>. Just remember to keep your tangible<\/strong> results targeted to your ideal role, industry or company to help you become an irresistible candidate.<\/p>\n

Cut the fluff<\/h2>\n

Once your CV is optimised with relevant information, it\u2019s time to start cutting the unnecessary<\/strong>. This is to stop irrelevant details clouding your more impressive abilities and to create space for other important talking points.<\/p>\n

Firstly, if you have included details such as your marital status<\/strong>, age<\/strong> or date of birth<\/strong>, you can cut this<\/strong> immediately as they do not affect your ability to do the job, and to be asked about these details is illegal or discouraged under the UK Equality Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can also tweak your address<\/strong> to the format \u201cTown, County\u201d<\/strong> as details of your location will already be on your account with the job board.<\/p>\n

Also take a look at the skills<\/strong> and knowledge<\/strong> you\u2019ve included in your CV. If parts are not mentioned in the job adverts you\u2019re responding to, then you can afford to cut down those sections slightly.<\/p>\n

On-point CV formatting<\/h2>\n

Your CV\u2019s formatting needs to be slick<\/strong> and professional<\/strong> to ensure recruiters can identify the information they\u2019re looking for as efficiently as possible.<\/p>\n

Ensure your CV is broken down into clear sections, introduced by bold headings<\/strong>. You also want to choose an easy-to-read font<\/strong>, such as Arial or Calibri, and ensure the formatting is consistent throughout.<\/p>\n

Your CV should neatly on fit two A4 pages, perhaps three if you\u2019re a seasoned professional. If it\u2019s just shy or spilling over, try adjusting the font sizes and page margins. A comfortable fit will make your CV look complete.<\/p>\n

Most job boards, like CV-Library<\/a>, are compatible with creative CVs<\/strong>. However, if you\u2019re ever in doubt about whether your CV will look the part, a traditional format saved as a .pdf file is your safest bet.<\/p>\n

Up-to-date contact information<\/h2>\n

This point almost sounds too obvious. However, there is a staggering amount of job hunters that fail to give up-to-date contact information or include details with typos and errors.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re actively job hunting, make sure that you double check your contact details<\/strong> before you click submit, or it could cost you your dream opportunity.<\/p>\n
