However, some recruiters have been<strong> innovating<\/strong> and have decided to use a technique to <strong>eliminate unconscious bias<\/strong> that can kind of appear during an <strong>interview<\/strong>. This technique is called <strong>blind recruitment<\/strong>. It is true that recruitment remains something <strong>discriminating<\/strong>, because we choose someone that has a certain <strong>education<\/strong> or a certain <strong>experience<\/strong>, but these are considered as <strong>positive<\/strong> criteria, unlike discrimination on the grounds of <strong>gender, religion or origins<\/strong>. However, this is not something <strong>new<\/strong>. In a very interesting article found on <strong>Entreprise Innovation<\/strong>, we learn that the blind recruitment technique had already been used in the <strong>1980s<\/strong> by the T<strong>oronto Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>. They used it so that the orchestra would not be composed of <strong>white men only<\/strong>. They organized an audition and didn\u2019t look at the musicians, but only listened to their <strong>music<\/strong>. As a result, it became an orchestra with <strong>50 percent of men and 50 percent of women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is how blind recruitment simply works: you remove from your <strong>CV<\/strong> all information that are in connection with your<strong> identity,<\/strong> that is to say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your <strong>name<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Your <strong>gender<\/strong> (something that is not compulsory in some countries)<\/li>\n<li>Your <strong>age<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Your <strong>education<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Futureboard-blind-Recruitment-01-1-min.png\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Futureboard-blind-Recruitment-01-1-min.png 600w, https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Futureboard-blind-Recruitment-01-1-min-129x300.png 129w, https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Futureboard-blind-Recruitment-01-1-min-440x1024.png 440w, https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Futureboard-blind-Recruitment-01-1-min-13x30.png 13w\" alt=\"blind recruitment\" width=\"600\" height=\"1396\" \/>Even though this is something that seems innovative, managers have to understand that if their have unconscious bias and clich\u00e9s, they have to train to <strong>think outside the box<\/strong>, to know more about their real <strong>needs in recruitment<\/strong> and learn how to <strong>judge and select<\/strong> candidates that don\u2019t share something in <strong>common<\/strong> with them.<\/p>\n<h2>The benefits of blind recruitment<\/h2>\n<p>As we said before, the aim is to completely <strong>eradicate bias and clich\u00e9s<\/strong> that anybody can have when he or she reads a family name, a date of birth or a college name. Recruitment is unfortunately a <strong>personal judgement<\/strong> and when a candidate has something in <strong>common<\/strong> with a recruiter, the latter might think this is the <strong>best applicant<\/strong>.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Stand-Out-B-Promoted-B-Series-Recruitment-min.png\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Stand-Out-B-Promoted-B-Series-Recruitment-min.png 400w, https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Stand-Out-B-Promoted-B-Series-Recruitment-min-300x222.png 300w, https:\/\/www.jobboardfinder.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Stand-Out-B-Promoted-B-Series-Recruitment-min-30x22.png 30w\" alt=\"recruitment\" width=\"400\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But according to the international recruitment agency <strong>Hays<\/strong>, blind recruitment is a technique that increases <strong>productivity, performance<\/strong> and of course that favors <strong>diversity in the workplace<\/strong>, something that is still a problem in 2017. Because diversity is a factor that allows companies to <strong>distinguish themselves from the competition<\/strong>. In the article, we learn that for example, a report from the <strong>McKinsey agency<\/strong> revealed that \u201ccompanies in the top quartile for <strong>gender diversity and ethnic minority<\/strong> board representation became 15 per cent and 35 per cent more likely, respectively, to <strong>financially outperform<\/strong> those in the bottom quartile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, as a recruiter explained, blind recruitment is <strong>not a magic solution<\/strong>, because there should not be <strong>discrimination in hiring<\/strong> anymore. \u201cGenerally speaking, making CVs <strong>blinder<\/strong> than they currently are is a good thing because it does help <strong>mitigate bias<\/strong>. However, blind recruitment is not a <strong>silver bullet<\/strong>, neither absolutely right nor absolutely wrong.
