Site's statement

Job board targeted on academics, scientists, researchers, engineers and specialized staff.

Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: Originally a Swiss job board, MyScience has since spread to other neighbouring countries, like Austria. It was founded in 2007, and took over some of the activity from Swiss-science.org. The group belongs to Scimetrica, which is a Scientific Communication and Evaluations website. The group hasn’t been very active on social media recently. There are no new posts since 2015 on Facebook for the 715 followers and all the portals share a Twitter page, which only has 48 followers (and nothing new). The visibility has dropped considerably since July of last year (on average, there are 275 daily visitors), but the articles are updated and interesting. For more information about the company, you can also visit the Wikipedia page.

Design: When you first visit the website, the job offers don’t stand out any more than the articles. In fact, the core of the homepage is focused on articles, and the search engine (the date, the category, the region, the type and keywords) only appears halfway down the page. There are also some featured employers down the bottom of the homepage, but some aren’t actually hiring. They do have profiles, which include a map, a logo and a brief description. You can access the listing through the search engine or “jobs” at the top of the page. If you would like to refine your search, you have advanced search options (the employer, the occupational rate, the publication date, the category, additional category). The job offers appear in a list, and have clear publication dates. There are no logos, but the information is clear and the application process is explained in the job description (the reference number for MyScience should be included in the application).

The job board objective: MyScience first goal is to share information from the scientific industry to those it interests most. That information includes events, research and job offers.

Recruiter observations: Recruiters can post both jobs and events. It’s easy to create an account and order through the site and the prices are on the website. In addition to featuring its partner websites, MyScience DE also features some noteworthy clients.

Jobseeker observations: Jobseekers can’t create an account but they can apply to job offers.

The job offers: Currently, there are 995 job offers on the site. The oldest job offers are from April of last year but more than half of them are less than a month old. Most of the job offers are in Careers/Employment, followed by Computer Science, Health and Life Science.

Reactivity: --

Special features: The confusing security codes (to send an e-mail); events; the news articles; the research institutes; the list of private universities; the list of federal administration; the list of professional university degree programs; the “living in Germany” section (which includes information on salary, housing, contracts, travel, insurance, taxes and an overview of Germany); the Max Planck Institutes.

Verdict: MyScience is an interesting website when it comes to news in the scientific field. It’s great to see efficient language options, interesting articles and advice on living in the country. If you do choose to use MyScience, you might want to use another job board as well for better visibility but you should definitely check out MyScience if you are new to Germany.
