Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: Chronicle Vitae is a specialist job board for education professionals. It is a service of the Chronicle of Higher Education, and as the name suggests, it is not just targeting those in education, but rather those at universities, faculties and institutions. In order to assist jobseekers, the site prides itself on providing necessary information and tools for a future in higher education. On social media, the team is active on Twitter for 13 400 followers and on Facebook for 6 361 followers. The main website also has an additional 298 590 followers on LinkedIn, which offers information about where it all started. For the job section, 783 310 people visit per month, mostly from the US, followed by Canada and the UK.

Design: The job board has a slightly different blue colour to the main page. Furthermore, the jobseeker portal logo is orange and the recruiter one is black. For jobseekers, there is a search engine (keywords and location) just under an explanation of the target audience: academics. You can also browse the latest articles or look for keywords on the site with the smaller search engine right up the top of the page. Once in the job listing, the featured job offers appear above the others, in blue, while the others are just white. Neither have logos but both have publication dates. The filters (publication date, position type, institution type, employment type, location) help refine the search and you can sort the offers by date or relevance. When opened, the two types of job offers have the same standard layout.

The job board objective: Chronicle Vitae focuses on a specific audience, higher education professionals, so that they can offer more refined services. Recruiters also can rest assured that the candidates are relevant to their search.

Recruiter observations: When creating a recruiter account, you must include your position title, your position type and other position type as well as a phone number and postcode. There is a CV database.

Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to create an account. You must provide your location, your current position and your current title.

The job offers: There are currently over 17 255 job offers online. Most of the jobs are faculty and research positions, in health & medicine and science/technology/mathematics.

Reactivity: The team answers within 24hours.

Special features: The articles; the resources (webinars, booklets and syllabi); the feedback options; the key figures.

Verdict: The numbers say it all: high traffic, lots of job offers and many users. The only thing, which could use some improvement, is the layout and UX design. A slightly more attractive website would be nice, but that really is a minor detail.
